Reading Bass Clef
To play timpani successfully, we need to learn how to read the notation. Timpani music is written in the bass clef. On the music staff we have both lines and spaces. There are a few sentences to help remember the note names!
To remember the lines: George Bush Drives Fast Always
To remember the spaces: All Cows Eat Grass

There are several notes that are outside of the staff as well. These require ledger lines which helps extend the staff. It is important to learn these notes because the 32" drum's range is found below the staff.
